Rotary actuators operate by converting the work done by a cylinder piston into rotational torque, by means of a rack and pinion mechanism integrated into the actuator body. It gives the advantage of constant torque, and allows the usage of cylinder specific features such as multistage adjustable cushioning, in a torque application (such as a door opening arrangement of a Banbury mixer used in the Tyre industry, as seen here)
